Chanel’s new high jewelry collection, “Sous le Signe du Lion”, is an ode to Mademoiselle Gabrielle Chanel’s beloved lion, with abundance of diamonds and swag.
Gabrielle was a Leo herself, and was very superstitious. Apparently, in 1920 when visiting Venice for the first time, she was taken with the proliferation of lions that peer out from door knockers, buildings, public monuments and of course the flag of St. Mark, patron saint of La Serenissima, whose symbol is a lion. Inspired from the mighty King of cats, she found the strength and solace from it, and turned to it whenever there was turbulence in her life.
“Sous le Signe du Lion” collection makes an entrance with an almighty roar. There is nothing timid or half-hearted about these jewels celebrating the power and majesty of the King of the Jungle. The pieces are big and have a swagger to them that hasn’t been felt in the world of jewelry since the 1970’s.
“Sous le Signe du Lion” is quintessentially Coco!
