Lady Gaga may possibly be the biggest pop star on the planet right now as the current reigning queen of pop. The female Diva who paved the way for such a ‘creative’ artist to exist is none other than living legend Grace Jones.
A force to be reckoned with during the disco and dance craze of the 70s and early 80s, Grace Jones established herself as a TRUE innovator. She was and still is a quintessential Performance artist, Recording artist, Movie star & Rule breaker.
She helped define the 1980s aesthetics. Disco Queen and fashion muse, this graceful “panther” has never been tamed. She has been recently honored at the Grand Ball Cavalchina in Venice, receiving an award for her career.
Her music, dramatic costumes and extravagant head pieces still resonate today and many contemporary artists have borrowed a page out of the Grace Jones handbook.
Her performance at the Hollywood Bowl introduced Grace and her unique over-the-top style (designed by the incomparable, the late Eiko Ishioka) to a whole new audience, and made it clear to the world that this is one artist who is aging Grace-fully and STILL marching to the beat of her own drummer at the tender age of 65.
We leave you with her incredible raspy vocals of SUNSET SUNRISE from her Album Hurricane. Enjoy…
